Description
Antique advertising / souvenir postcard
Circa 1950's
Artistic representation of Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge in New York City
Manhattan, Eighth Avenue between 51st & 52nd Streets
Howard Johnson's is/was an American chain of hotels, motels and restaurants located primarily throughout the United States and Canada. If you were a child of the 40's 50s, 60, or 70s you are sure to remember their icon orange and turquoise branding and populuxe styled rooftops and ramps on their motor lodges and restaurants.
"HoJo's" - as Howard Johnson's was nicknamed, was the largest restaurant chain in the U.S.A. throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with more than 1,000 combined company-owned and franchised outlets. The hotel chain is now a part of Wyndham Worldwide.
As of this writing, only one HoJo's restaurant remains, and that is in Lake George, NY. In 2013 Wyndham proposed a reinvigoration of the brand within their hotel restaurants, by offerering a select menu including special ice cream flavors.
