And you'll have strength and wisdom rare."

 Reverse caption:
"To wish you all happiness on your birthday."
Dark Gem 2  This series is also unusual because they came preprinted on the back with a unique birthday greeting. This is something we did not typically see until the age of the duofold greeting card began. Today more cards are sold for birthdays with preprinted sentiments than blank inside cards.

In the past century the primary birthstone for March has been aquamarine, bloodstone is considered a secondary birthstone (more suitable for a man's ring). The ideas of birthstones can be traced back centuries ago and have lore even referencing the twelve gems that studded the breastplate of the high priests of Jerusalem in ancient Judea. The modern concept of birthstones only date back to c.1900 when American jeweler's associations were trying to popularize gem stones other than diamonds and pearls. A couple have fallen by the wayside in the past 120 years: for example almost no jewelers carry genuine Alexandrite (June) anymore because of it's extreme rarity and cost ... the alternative birthstones pearl and moonstone now are the primary June birthstone. November's traditional birthstone is "precious" or "imperial" topaz which has also has become less available and very costly and has been replaced by the semi-precious Citrine which comes not only in yellow but shades of golden orange and deep reddish orange.
