Description
Antique floral greetings post card for a birthday
Circa 1911
Postmark Hatton, North Dakota
This pretty card features pansies, the flower that represents thoughts and thoughtfulness.
See how well designed this is. The asymmetrical way the flowers line the upper edge of the inset scene, and the delicate curving lines of the inscription. Even the background is beautiful!
The pansy got its name from the French word pensée "thought", and was imported into Late Middle English as a name of viola in the mid-15th century, as the flower was regarded as a symbol of remembrance.
Pansies have been cultivated in many shades, the most commonly seen colors include blue, orange, yellow, mauve, purple, maroon, red and white.
