Circa 1904
Queen's College, Belfast, opened in 1849. Its main building, the Lanyon Building, was designed by the English architect, Sir Charles Lanyon. At its opening, it had 23 professors and 343 students. Today the school is called Queen's University - Belfast (QUB) and its student body exceeds 23,000 students and its academic staff number over 2400. The University is one of the largest employers in Northern Ireland.
