Description
Antique art greetings post card
Circa early 20th century
French language divided back, golden age
1907 - 1915
The Kingfisher is fairly widespread across the UK, especially in central and southern England. They are found by still or slow flowing water such as lakes, canals and rivers in lowland areas. When they hunt they stand stock still, and don't appear to be real. Then, like a flash they drop, *flip! plip!* and in an instant they are back up on their perch with a small fish or aquatic animal in its bill. If the prey is big or wriggling a lot, they will thrash and beat it against a branch until it stops moving. Savage! Watching the kingfisher hunt is really pretty cool; esp. if you have been casting a while and not catching anything yourself!
About the artist - Mary Golay
Mary Golay was an English-born visual artist who is best known for her watercolor still-life paintings and paintings of wildlife. Her works were published as postcards and other ephemera by Raphael Tuck & Sons and John O. Winsch Co. at the turn of the last century.
